Virginia L. Sechler, age 93, passed away peacefully into eternal rest on Wednesday Jan 17, 2024. She was born on March 30, 1930 in Dayton, OH the daughter of the late Wilbur C. Tomlinson & Anna M. (Barr) Tomlinson. She was a longtime resident of Newton Falls, formerly of Palmyra Twp & Paris Twp.
Virginia married Wendell G. Sechler in June 1950. They were blessed with 51 years of marriage before his passing in 2001. Virginia graduated from Paris Twp. High School in 1948. Virginia went on to obtain her degree in Elementary Education from Kent State University and taught for 27 years at Southeast Schools retiring in 1991.
Virginia attended the Wayland Community Church as a child. She became a member of the First Christian Church in Newton Falls where she had been on the board, taught Sunday School, was a Deaconess and an Elder. She was a member of the Scarlet Bonnets and the Red Hat Society. Virginia loved gardening, reading, playing cards, dominos and putting together puzzles. Virginia greatest passion was traveling, and she traveled to many different countries with her favorite being Iceland.
She is survived by her children: Madelyn (Henry "Buddy") Ficken of Columbus, Keith (Linda) Sechler of Cleveland, Michele (Daniel) Eastlake of Columbus, Kimberly Coughlin of Lewis Center, Noralee (Rudy) Seymour of Willow Springs, NC, Patsy (James) Kaschalk of Lewis Center, brother Rev. William Tomlinson of Indianola, Iowa, 10 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, 1 sister: Rebecca Smith and 1 brother: Wilbur Tomlinson Jr.
A memorial service for Virginia will be at the First Christian Church in Newton Falls on Saturday March 30, 2024 at 12:00pm with Rev. Beth Pass officiating. She will then be laid to rest beside her husband Wendell at Hawley Cemetery in Paris Twp. The family has requested that donations be made to the First Christian Church, 17 North Center St., Newton Falls, OH 44444 in Virginia's memory.
