Obituary

William (Bill) Wade Gibson, age 82, of Lordstown, OH, passed away peacefully into eternal rest on December 23, 2013. He was born on May 11, 1931, in Shinnston, WV, and was the son of the late Claude Alfred Gibson and Evelyn Ann (Sloan) Gibson. After high school in Fairmont, WV, he joined the U.S. Army during the Korean War and served his country faithfully for 3 years, earning the rank of corporal. Bill married the love of his life, Joan Grace Maxwell, on September 16, 1955, and they enjoyed 58 years of marriage together. He and his wife, Joan, have lived in Lordstown since 1966, and were members of the Bailey Road Baptist Church. Bill worked as a millwright at General Motors Lordstown for 30 years, before retiring in 1994. He enjoyed camping and all kinds of sports, especially golfing and baseball. He loved watching his grandkids grow up and play sports, and he tried to attend all their games. Bill was dedicated to his community and its youth and served years of coaching and then following the many teams that his grandchildren and friends played on. He served on the "Fall Festival" founder's committee (now the Apple Cider Festival). He was always willing to help or to lead many fundraisers for the school and sports associations - some will remember the "Tee-Hee" events. He was a founding committee member for the Village of Lordstown Incorporation and a long time member and trustee at the Bailey Road Baptist Church. Bill is preceded in death by his parents, one infant son, Stan Allen Gibson, one sister, Ruth Williams, one brother, Jim Gibson, and one grandson, Aaron Davis Gibson. Memories of Bill will be carried on by his family: his wife, Joan Gibson of Lordstown, and three sons: JC and Marty Gibson of Lordstown, Timothy and Janice Gibson of Braceville, Todd and Starla Gibson of Lordstown, two sisters: Dorothy Wilson of Fairmont, WV, and Claudia and Robert Luzadder of Lordstown, OH, and eight grandchildren (Max, Courtney, Anna, Ben, Erica, Meagan, Greg and Julie).
