Obituary

William Robert Dydell, age 88 of Newton Falls passed away on 12/14/24 at his home with his family by his side. He was born in New Brighton, PA son of the late Ronald Ellsworth Dydell and Anna Elizabeth (Speyer) Dydell. Bill married the love of his life, Joanne Kathryn OBrock in 1957, and they have enjoyed 67 years of marriage. He has lived in Newton Falls since 1939 where he graduated from Newton Falls High School in 1954. Bill then went into the US Army, but remained in Newton Falls briefly to play in the Trumbull/Mercer County All Star Football Game. He served his country for 23 years and retired as a Major in 1977. He was a graduate of the United States Army Command and General Staff College in Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas; a graduate of Jungle Warfare Training & Survival School, Fort Sherman, Panama Canal Zone and has many certificates from military training throughout his military career. He also received a bachelor's degree in business from Marymount College in Kansas. After his military service, he worked for Dearborn Brass, where he retired as a regional sales manager. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the American Legion, Amvets and the Vietnam Veterans Association. He was an active member of the First Christian Church of Newton Falls where he held various positions and sang in the choir. In his younger years, Bill was a wonderful roller-skater. He loved to play Bridge, with his Bridge group and cards with family and friends. He also enjoyed fishing local lakes with his sons and uncles. Bill and Joanne spent 21 years as snowbirds in Florida and enjoyed many cruises and traveled extensively over our beautiful country and Europe.

He is survived by his wife: Joanne K. Dydell of Newton Falls, 2 sons: Ronald & Kathy Dydell of Newton Falls, Blaine Dydell & Joanne Gannon of Lordstown, 1 granddaughter: Kellie & Randy Burke of Niles and one great-grandson: Jacob Charles Burke and a goddaughter: Lois & Randy Nelson of Northeast, PA. and many nieces and nephews. He is proceeded in death by his parents and two sisters, Donna Greitzer and Beatrice Thompson.

Calling hours will be at James Funeral Home in Newton Falls on Friday, December 20, 2024  from 11:00am to 1:00pm. Funeral services will immediately follow at 1:00pm at the funeral home. William will be laid to rest in the Newton Falls Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations please be made to the First Christian Church, 17 North Center St., Newton Falls, OH 44444 in memory of Bill Dydell or SouthernCare Hospice at 970 Windham Ct, #9, Youngstown, OH 44512.
