Barbara Jean Rood

Barbara Jean Rood, age 84 of Newton Falls passed away peacefully into eternal rest on Monday Feb 13, 2023 at the University Hospital of Cleveland. She was born on February 16, 1938 in Palmyra, Illinois the daughter of the late Lawrence Gilbert Smith & Lois Marie (Mieher) Smith. She has lived in Newton Falls since 1957 formerly of California. Barbara married Eugene Duane Rood on June 2, 1956 and they enjoyed the past 63 years of marriage together until he passed away on Oct. 30, 2019. Barbara had various jobs working at Roods Paint Store for 15 years, she sold Amway for 9 years, worked at Burger Chef in Newton Falls but her greatest job was as a wife and mother. She enjoyed bowling, was a member of the Covered Bridge Club and worked on the fundraising committee for the Newton Falls July 4th Fireworks. Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Eugene.

She is survived by: 2 daughters; Deborah (Timothy) Myers of Fowler,OH, Phyllis (John) Neubert of Baltimore, MD, 1 sister: Janice Lee of Escalon, CA, 3 grandchildren: Melanie( Marshall) Robinson, Timothy (Mindy) Myers, Jaclyn (Terence) Neubert and 4 great grandchildren: Justin, Samuel, Brynn, Bailey.

Funeral services will be at the James Funeral Home in Newton Falls on Friday Feb 17, 2023 at 10:30am with Rev. Jon Pratt officiating. Calling hours will be at the funeral home on Thursday Feb. 16, 2023 from 6:00- 8:00pm. Barbara will be laid to rest beside her husband Eugene at Newton Falls Cemetery.
