James L. (Rip) VanWinkle, 78 of Bristolville passed away at his residence on Saturday, October 7, 2023. He was born in Warren on May 23, 1945; the son of the late Lester and Eleanor (Swanson) VanWinkle.
A lifetime area resident, James graduated from Newton Falls High School in 1963 and then worked for Packard Electric, retiring after 30 years of service. He was of Lutheran faith and enjoyed coaching little league baseball. He was the President and a coach of the McKinley League out of Warren.
James is survived by his two daughters; Diana (Liz) Bright of Akron and Dawn (Jim) Lytle of Newton Falls; two sons; David (Debbie) VanWinkle of Warren and Eric (Fiancée - Erin Doaga) VanWinkle of Bristolville; two sisters; Judy Janus of Newton Falls and Carol (Jerry) DeCamp of Canfield; 9 grandchildren; Daniel Prince, Nicole (Noah) Wayt, Nicole Sundquist, Travis (Melissa) Lytle, Eleanor VanWinkle, Dominic VanWinkle, Gavin VanWinkle-Bright, Hailey VanWinkle, Bently VanWinkle; three great grandchildren; Arison Wayt, Michelina Wayt and Penelope Sundquist.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A private family viewing was held and James was buried next to his parents at Hawley Cemetery. Arrangments were entrusted to James Funeral Home, 8 East Broad Street, Newton Falls, Ohio 44444 (330) 872-5440.
