James "Don" Peace Obituary

NEWTON FALLS - James D. Peace, 83, of Newton Falls, went to be with the Lord on  October 20, 2023, at 4:43a.m.
 He was born January 10, 1940 in Clinton, South Carolina, the son of the late James C. and Margaret (Elledge) Peace. 

James  "Don" was a 1958 graduate of Newton Falls.

He married his high school sweetheart, Becky Shipman, in 1960 and they were blessed with 63 years of marriage. 

James retired from WCI in January 2001 after 41 years of service. 
He attended and was actively involved at Chestnut Ridge Church of God, where he was a minister of music from 2001-2007, but remained very much involved until this sudden ugly head of cancer appeared, in June of 2023.  Prior to Chestnut Ridge, James had attended the Newton Falls Church of God for forty eight years. He was actively involved in the various working and served in many areas of both churches throughout the years. singing, teaching and serving on varies boards.

He had served as a scout leader, little league coach, and adult softball coach. He enjoyed bowling, golf, baseball, flying and taking his 63’ Lincoln to car shows both local and statewide with his good friend, Ron Huffman.  James was proud of the many trophies he won with his car, especially his first place trophy at a national level in Michigan. He proudly served on his NEO Board of Lincoln Club.  

Memories of James will be carried on by his wife Becky and their children: son, James D. (Michele) Peace of Newton Falls;  daughter, Vickie Peaceof Newton Falls; sister & brother-in-law,  Linda (Andy) Hospodor of Cortland;
grandsons: Adam Peace of Cleveland & Austin Peace of  Newton Falls;  
Bonus acquired grandson: Daniel Leeworthy and his sons Carter and Theodore of Texas; Bonus acquired children: LeAnn Birkheimer, Nancy Hoffman, and Cheryl Burless; Uncle: Lorance Peace of Taylors South, Carolina;  and Aunt: Juanita Coates of Campobello, South Carolina
He will also be missed by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
 
James was preceded in death by his parents and by his twin brothers, Eddie and Freddie.
 
At his request cremation has taken place.  Friends and family are invited to attend a "Celebration of Life" service on Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at noon at Chestnut Ridge Church of God, 7215 Chestnut Ridge Rd, Hubbard OH.  Calling hours will be 11 a.m. until noon.  Pastor Rob McFarland officiating.   Private graveside services will be at a later time at Newton Falls Cemetery. 
 
Special thank you to any and all, who helped in any way, as we went through these past few months. A Special thank you to those who spent hours putting together a ramp for him to use, if he were to have made it home again. All the cards, visits, phone calls and prayers were really a special blessing to Don.
