Jon Douglas Pratt, 70, of Braceville, passed away on Thursday, September 21, 2023, at his residence surrounded by devoted family members who loved and supported him through his five-month battle with cancer. Jon was a dear husband, father, grandfather and friend. He simply lived his faith daily by ministering to friends and strangers alike, teaching the Truth from God's Word and leading his family and church family to become more like Jesus. His gentle heart touched many lives.
Jon was born on January 24, 1953, to Ralph and Ethel (Spear) Pratt of Meadville, PA, and was the middle child of five siblings: Alan (Eileen) Pratt of Utica, OH; Daryl (Barbara) Pratt of Titusville, FL; Judy Pratt of Cincinnati; and Noreen (Rick) Kemple of Arlington, IN.
Jon graduated from Meadville Area High School in 1971 and furthered his education at Cincinnati Bible College where he received his Bachelor of Arts in Christian Ministry in 1976. He served as part-time youth minister to the New Richmond (OH) Church of Christ from 1974-1978. He then became full-time minister to the Penn Line Church of Christ in Pierpont, Ohio, from 1978-1986. In August of 1986, the family arrived in Braceville where Jon became the minister of the Braceville Christian Church where he served for 37 years.
Jon married Jill Dillon of Meadville in December 1974, and they had two daughters: Christy Joy & Laurie Faye. His wife sadly passed away in August of 1978 following a short illness. Jon then married Cynthia Wagner of Chillicothe, OH, on November 7, 1980, and God blessed him again with two more children: Rachel Marie & John Michael.
Jon will be deeply missed by many: his wife
of almost 43 years, Cynthia Pratt of Braceville; daughter Christy (Dave) Futrell of Lawrenceburg, KY; daughter Laurie (Joe) Minshull of Jamestown, PA; daughter Rachel (Kenny) Sullinger of Southington; son Michael (Sarah) Pratt of Mansfield; 11 grandchildren (Joey, Josh and Jon Mark Futrell; Xander Minshull and Delaney Cowger; Garrett and Jackson Sullinger; Everett, Marin and Adler Pratt along with baby girl Pratt who will arrive in November); many family members and friends; and, of course, his church family.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at the Braceville Christian Church at 6:00 PM. Jon will be laid to rest later at Braceville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Jon's memory to the Braceville Christian Church, 4387 Church Street SW, Newton Falls, Ohio, 44444. Jon was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, a niece and two nephews (Jenny, Jeff and Gavin Pratt).
