Obituary

Leslie Dale Ackerman, 88 of Braceville Twp. passed away peacefully into eternal rest on June 28, 2023.  He was born on October 16, 1934 in Massillon, OH the son of the late Leslie Lee Ackerman and Mary (Lyons) Ackerman.  Dale married his high school sweetheart, Martha Costello on June 29, 1957, and they enjoyed 66 years of marriage together.

Dale graduated from Newton Falls High School in 1955. He served in the US Army 1957-1959 where he was stationed in Crailsheim, Germany. He was employed at Rockwell Standards International for 9 years and then worked for Packard Electric in Plant 10 retiring in 1993.

Dale was a born again Christian and attended the First Church of God in Newton Falls for over 75 years. He served in many ways- usher, deacon, driving church bus, Brother/Sister keepers, Golden Agers, Trail Blazers, supported the Children of Promise, volunteering for years with Meals on wheels and bowled on the church league.

Dale was a friendly and easy going person who never met a stranger. He was always lending a helping hand to others. Dale enjoyed visiting with family and friends especially at the Lyons and Ackerman reunions. He enjoyed working Sudoku puzzles, playing cards, camping, roller skating and square dancing with the Trumbull Spinners. He was happy out on his old golf cart tending fires, and caring for his land.  Dale was happiest beside Martha on his back deck watching for deer and turkeys.

He was well traveled. He was able to visit Tanzania and Haiti where his sister and brother were each serving a missionaries. He visited his family throughout the US including Alaska and Okinawa, Japan.

He is survived by his wife Martha and their 5 beloved children & spouses: Diane & Ed Anderson of Cortland, OH, Richard & Nellene Ackerman of Poy Sippi, WI, Leslie & John Reinhardt of Stuart, FL, Mike & Liza Ackerman of Warner Robbins, GA, and Paul & Mitzi Ackerman of Leavittsburg, OH. Blessed by 9 grandchildren: Tara & Clark Magdych, Rebecca Anderson, Noah & Brittany Reinhardt, Kate Reinhardt, Jacob Reinhardt, Kelli Ackerman, Joshua Ackerman, Lauren & Brandon Smith, Leah Ackerman and one great granddaughter Kinsley Smith, and one more baby girl on the way.  Also his sister Caroline Marschall of Penney Farms, FL, Sister in laws Jodie Ackerman of Anderson, IN, Joyce Wine of Hubbard, OH, and Mary & Ed Wilson of Liberty, OH. Dale was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Eileen and Thelma, brother John and 2 brother in laws: John Wine, and Bill Marschall.

The family would like to express appreciation to the Mercy Health medical staff on the fifth floor, Gillette Nursing Home and Hospice of the Valley for their care and kindness. A special appreciation to nurse Katie. Also,thank you for the many prayers and support from family and friends.

Per Leslie's wishes, cremation has taken place.  A Celebration of Life Service will be at the Newton Falls First Church of God on Sunday July 30, 2023 at 4:00pm with Pastor Jennifer Dorn officiating.  In lieu of flowers the family would like all donations to be made to the Newton Falls First Church of God 426 West Broad St. Newton Falls, OH 44444 in his memory.
