Marbie "Jean" Howes, age 84 of Lordstown passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Saturday Aug. 5, 2023. She was born on Dec. 11, 1938 in Flat Woods, WV, the daughter of the late Doy Curtis Helmick and Nellie Fayne (Rohrbough) Helmick. Marbie married the love of her life, and her high school sweetheart Delmar J. Howes on Dec. 27, 1955, and they enjoyed 63 years of marriage together until he passed away on Sept. 21, 2019. Marbie and her husband Delmar have lived in the Leavittsburg, Warren area for 56 years, formerly of Buckhannon, WV. She worked at Packard Electric for 29 1/2 years, retiring in 1997 following several years in the Maintenance Department. Marbie was a member of the Solid Rock Christian Church in Masury, OH, and a former member of the Newton Falls Kiwanis Club.
Marbie had a wide range of interests and was always on the move. She enjoyed square dancing with Delmar, downhill skiing with her friends from Packard Electric, growing flowers and decorating her home. She shared her love of horses and sewing with her girls, supporting them through many years of 4H and county fair. She was a skilled seamstress, creating many beautiful dance costumes and wedding gowns. In her later years, she loved cheering for her great-grandchildren at their various sporting events and especially taking them shopping. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Delmar, an infant brother Ronald Doy Helmick, and a granddaughter Kyla Guitierrez.
Marbie is survived by two daughters: Sabrena Sally of Worthington, OH, and Shawn & Tom Hardy of Lordstown, one son: Chet & Jenny Howes of West Farmington, OH, one brother: Harmon & Thelma Helmick of Buckhannon, WV, four grandchildren: Trisha, Lori, Dustin, Angela, and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at the James Funeral Home in Newton Falls on Friday Aug. 11, 2023 at 1:00pm. Calling hours will be from 11:00am - 1:00pm. She will be laid to rest beside her husband Delmar at Waterloo Cemetery in French Creek, WV on Tuesday Aug. 15, 2023 at 11:00am.
