Michael Szczurek Obituary

Michael J. Szczurek (4-Barrel), age 77, of Southington, passed away peacefully into eternal rest on Tuesday night, March 26, 2024 at St. Joseph Eastland Hospital in Warren.  He was born on April 14, 1946 in Chicago, IL, the son of the late Joseph Francis Szczurek and Beulah Mae (Baughman) Szczurek. Michael lived in Southington for most of his life and graduated from Chalker High School in the Class of 1964. After high school, he attended Youngstown State University and graduated with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering. Michael served his country during the Vietnam War in the US Navy from Feb. 1967 to Oct. 1968.  He married Carolyn Ann Tvaroch on Feb. 18, 1967, and they enjoyed 57 years of marriage together.  Michael worked for Packard Electric in Warren as an Electrician for 42 years, retiring in 2007.  Michael was a member of the American Legion Post #751 in Southington, the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) where he was an assistant Scoutmaster and camp inspector, National Hot Rod Association (NHRA), and the Niagara Corvette Club (NCC).  He also enjoyed flying, drag racing, and scouting. Michael is preceded in death by his parents, one infant son, David M. Szczurek, and 2 sisters: Mary Kathryn Pawcio, and Judith Ann Szczurek-Bourne.

He is survived by his wife Carolyn A. (Tvaroch) Szczurek of Southington; 1 daughter, Christine (Raymond) Cho of Powell, OH; 1 son, Michael J. Szczurek of Lawrenceville, GA; 2 sisters, Patricia (Buddy) Szczurek-Manos of Newton Falls and Elizabeth (Randy) Raub of Waseca, MN; 2 brothers, Richard Szczurek of Southington and David (Lenett) Szczurek of Southington; and 2 grandchildren, Joshua & Timothy.
Funeral services will be at the James Funeral Home in Newton Falls on Monday April 1, 2024 at 12:00pm with Father David Merzweiler officiating. Calling hours will be from 11:00am - 12:00pm.  He will be laid to rest at All Souls Cemetery in Cortland.  In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that all donations please be made to either the Great Trail Council of the Boy Scouts of America (gtcbsa.org) or the Southington American Legion Post #751, PO Box 307, Southington, OH 44470 in his memory.
