Ruth Eileen (Sowers) Sharec age 96 of Newton Falls, passed away peacefully into eternal rest on Monday, February 26, 2024 at Ohio Living Lake Vista in Cortland. She was born on July 17, 1927 in Warren, OH, the daughter of the late Bayard Frederick Sowers & Rilla Miriam (Beck)Sowers. Ruth married her life-long friend, George Eli Sharec on August 2, 1953 and were blessed with 54 years of marriage until he passed away on May 2, 2008.
Ruth graduated from Newton Falls High School Class of 1945 and attended Syracuse University School of Library Science. Ruth worked at the Newton Falls Public Library for 20 years. After her retirement she was appointed as a member of the Board of Trustees for the library and served as Secretary of the Board until May 2008.
Ruth, along with husband George, worked to carry on their interests in agriculture promoting conservation tillage, no-till farming, timber/ wildlife management. They hosted farm tours and were recognized state-wide and nationally for their endeavors.
Ruth was president of the Ohio Federation of Soil and Water Conservation Districts Auxiliary, a member of the Mahoning Valley Grange # 1272, and served as a State Delegate, a member of the Trumbull County Farm Bureau and was Secretary of the County Board for 22 years, a member of the Newton Township Cemetery Association, and had a keen interest for local history.
In May 2003 the Sharecs donated an agricultural easement of 249 acres to the Ohio Department of Agriculture preserving the farm to keep the land in agricultural production for perpetuity.
Per Ruth's wishes she has been cremated and her ashes will be scattered in locations on the farm with her husband, George.
